United Arab Emirates – Unusual Rigging & Engineering LLC was the assembler of choice at last month’s IDEX, the largest defense exhibition in the Middle East, held at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi. Considered the most important tri-service defense exhibition in the world, the exhibition attracted more than 130,000 visitors from 65 countries, and more than 1,350 exhibitors participated in the exhibition area of 165,000 square meters.
For such a prestigious and massive event, ADNEC’s Director of Power and Rigging Services, David McKean, brought in Unusual Rigging to assist the venue rigging team in installing and managing the rigging projects across all 15 halls.
David commented: “The Unusual team works with us multiple times a year and knows our expectations very well. With over 100 stands this year, Unusual received a rigging plan for each stand from the rigging manager. As such, they needed to map out the And provide primary and secondary rigging.”
The number of kits required for IDEX was enormous, with crews installing kilometers of trusses, more than 1,200 rigging points and 500 mobile cranes. The construction period was 21 days and all works were completed by lunchtime on the last day of construction. As with all projects of this size, challenges come with them, mainly last-minute orders. “I have to mention that the whole office team went out of their way to get us the equipment so we could get it on the stand in the shortest possible time,” commented David. “This is what puts Unusual above its competition. Their flexibility and knowledge is second to none, and you know you’ll have 100% support from everyone, from the fitter in the field to the staff in the office.”
He adds: “Aside from customer service and support, we have always known that Unusual’s stock equipment is top notch and always well maintained, which gives you peace of mind that you can trust the kit you are using. There is no doubt that Unusual Rigging is Our preferred supplier and we will continue to utilize them for staffing and dry lease this year and beyond.”
