The Friends of Natchitoches Parish Library Mini Book Sale will continue June 1-3 in the meeting room on the third floor of the Main Library during normal business hours. The shelves will be filled with thousands of items, including DVDs, paperbacks, hardcovers and audiobooks. Items cost 50 cents each, and new items are added daily, space permitting. Cash only, no change. Proceeds go toward library programs, classes and events.

The Spring/Summer Farmers Market at Natchitoches Riverbank Town Center is Saturday, June 3, 8 a.m. to noon.

The Summer Reading Program runs from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on the Lawn of the Main Branch Library and includes performances by Lady Chops and The Party Wagon and Lies at Petting Zoo.

Free guided walking tours of the Natchitoches Historic Landmark District begin at 10 am. Tours depart from the Natchitoches Visitor Center on Front St. Please call 318/356-5555.

The annual Montgomery Alumni Association Banquet will be held on Saturday, June 3 at the Montgomery High School Gymnasium.Banquet hosted by DJ Doc Couty from 7pm

All Montgomery High School seniors are invited to attend this event. All donations help fund scholarships and cover banquet costs. The Dinner is an annual gathering of alumni to connect with friends and past graduates. Now is a great time to bring along old yearbooks and photos for nostalgia. The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum Celebrate the Continued Legacy of the Louisiana Folk Fiddle Saturday, June 10, 2-3:15pm The program includes discussions with three past Louisiana Fiddle Champions Traditional in importance and will include live music. Performances of various regional violin styles as well as demonstrations of violin stick playing and double violins will follow a question-and-answer session for participation in the violin competition. Fiddlers of all skill levels are invited to bring their instruments to jam sessions with some of the best violinists in Louisiana. Young and old are invited to the free event. Juneteenth is the federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, and the City of Natchitoches and community sponsors are gearing up for this year’s annual celebration. The festivities will begin at 3pm on Saturday, June 10th with a parade. The parade starts at Checker’s Gourmet Restaurant on Texas Street, then turns left on Amulet Street to Martin Luther King Jr. The parade ends in a city park. After the parade, there will be games in the park for all ages. Choose from water polo, face painting, water slides and more. The Municipal Public Security Bureau co-organized the event. Those wishing to participate in the parade may contact Betty Sawyer-Smith at 318/332-8668.

Then, on Friday and Saturday, June 16-17, the festivities continue. Kickoff is Friday at 10am in front of City Hall in Mayor’s Park. Saturday’s events then include a youth basketball tournament and a “celebrity” basketball game starting at 9:00 a.m. at Natchitoches Junior High.

Downtown Riverbank also has a festival starting at 3pm with music, a kid’s area with jumpers and slides, a ‘pop-up’ shop, local food trucks and more.

The Freedom Festival, featuring Keith Frank’s headlining performance, begins at 7 p.m. Celebrations commemorating the Juneteenth holiday end with fireworks at 9:45 p.m.

NSU Summer Dinner Theater to present mysterious “Murder Again” on stage at AA Fredericks Auditorium June 13-17 and 20-24 and July 18-22 and 25 The musical “100 Years of Broadway” from 1-29.

Doors open at 5:30pm and dinner service begins at 6pm. Tickets are $45 and include a meal (soup, salad, entrée, sides, dessert) and a show. A cash bar will be available. Prices do not include a suggested tip of $10 per guest. This dress is business attire. Search for NSU Summer Dinner Theater on Eventbrite.com to get tickets. “Murder Happened Again” is a classic Wild West detective novel that will keep you guessing until the end. “100 Years of Broadway” is a night of energetic musical theater performances featuring favorite songs and characters.

Coffee with the police continues on Wednesday, June 14, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am on the patio of Magee’s Café at 536 University Parkway. This monthly program encourages locals to stop by, have a cup of coffee with Natchitoches Police and ask questions about what’s going on in their community and neighborhood. City Marshall Lt. Billy Meziere administers the program.

Natchitoches Parish Library Bookmobile is held every other Wednesday from 11am-noon at Briarwood Baptist Church. Library cardholders can borrow books, movies and magazines, as well as download digital loans using WiFi. The dates are June 14th and June 28th. The church is located at 1020 state Hwy. 9 brine.
