‘Uptown Carnes’ could bring more business and entertainment to Goose Creek

[ad_1]

Goose Creek, South Carolina (WCBD) — A $50 million investment could soon bring new business to what is known as a residential development in Goose Creek.

Goose Creek Mayor Greg Habib said the development, which will be built on a property off Highway 17A in the Carnes Crossroads community, would be a huge opportunity for Goose Creek.

“I’ve said long ago that we need to be involved in our development and we’re lucky to have partners from Urban Core Advisors Real Estate who come to the folks at Carnes Crossroads and they come to us and start talking about what they want to develop, ” said Mayor Khabib.

Leaders see this as an opportunity to improve the city at low cost.

“There are offices, there are shops, there are restaurants and bars. That sort of thing,” he said.

Mayor Habib said the developer might even open a rooftop bar.

“We don’t have a walkable downtown area in the city of Goose Creek, and while it won’t be downtown, it’s now affectionately called Carnes Uptown, and appropriately uptown,” he said.

Goose Creek is working with the developer of the project.

“We have signed a common use agreement with them. We commit $75,000 a year, which covers some of the maintenance costs of the property,” explains Habib.

There is no upfront fee for the city, and the city council will be able to vote annually on whether to continue the agreement.

“Because we signed a joint use agreement with them, it’s going to be a walkable downtown area with a big lawn in the middle. We can also use the asset for programming, whether it’s for a farmers market, or for art and craft shows or concerts.”

While he doesn’t have the exact dimensions of the Great Lawn, it will be larger than Somerville’s Hutchinson Square and will be surrounded by businesses like Hutchinson Square.

The new residential development is expected to open in early 2026.
