The Urdu Literature and Culture Festival “Cultural Carwaan” will be held this weekend in Abu Dhabi on Sunday 21 August. The one-day festival aims to bring together Urdu lovers and celebrate the culture associated with the Emirati language.
The festival, which will be held at the Armed Forces Officers Club, provides a platform for young talents who will have the opportunity to meet popular Urdu poets and writers from local communities in South Asia and the UAE. Storytelling, Mushaira, Music Dastango and more will take place at the event to discuss the past, present and future of Urdu. The awards ceremony will conclude the event.
Popular Sufi singers such as Moeed Hashmi and Tabsira Suhrawardi (Tabu) will be joined by local talent for the event. Gaggan Mudgal, an acclaimed Dubai-based artist, will present a hilarious tale of the behind-the-scenes life of a radio presenter. Poets such as Abbas Tabish and Hamida Shaheen will also be present at the event.
The festival is led by Dr. Sabahat Asim Wasti, a renowned rehabilitation specialist in the UAE, and Syed Sarosh Asif, a senior wealth manager in Abu Dhabi, along with a team of local artists.
“As a platform, Culture Carwaan will provide young, up-and-coming talented artists with the opportunity to showcase their talents, and will also work with some internationally renowned artists,” said Dr. Vasti, author of six books.
On the other hand, Syed Sarosh is a renowned international poet who has been living in the UAE for the past 18 years. “While the Urdu-speaking community in the UAE has been organising individual programmes, Cultural Carwaan will bring audiences a wide range of Urdu literature such as drama, panel discussions, storytelling, poetry and music, all centered on One day under one roof,” he said.
The event is free and open to the public. For registration and more details please contact 058 9349314.
