Trump accused the FBI of “stealing” his passport during the search. Now she has him again. The passport was not clearly seen on the receipt for the confiscated goods.
The FBI has returned passports seized during a search of former US President Donald Trump’s Florida home. Trump wrote the article on Truth Social, an online network he co-founded.
Meanwhile, he again criticized the discovery of his Mar-a-Lago estate. FBI agents took what they saw, “Like a regular criminal. This shouldn’t happen in America!”
According to media reports, the FBI has returned Trump’s confiscated passport. Broadcasters NBC and CBS reported the news, citing Justice Department and law enforcement employees.
Last week, federal police confiscated passports during a search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Trump accuses FBI of ‘stealing’ passports
Trump accused the FBI of “stealing” his passport during the raid. “Wow! During the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago, they stole three of my passports (one expired) and everything else,” Trump wrote on the online network Truth Social.
According to CBS, a team of investigators examined the confiscated material and searched passports for important and irrelevant material. The broadcaster reported that Trump was told the passport had been made and was being returned before Monday’s social media post.
The FBI said Monday that it will “follow court-ordered search and seizure procedures” when executing search warrants and returning items that do not need to be kept for law enforcement purposes.
On Friday, a Florida court issued a receipt and search warrant for the confiscated items at the request of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The list of confiscated items included documents and several boxes. The passport is apparently not listed there.
The FBI found secret documents from Trump’s home. The operation was based on suspicions that Trump may have violated the Espionage Act and other laws, as the search warrant shows.
