After a brief hiatus, On Stage Vacaville is back to continue its 21-year mission: supporting theater arts venues across the city and making Vacaville a regional entertainment destination.
“Most, if not all, of our local performing arts groups have suffered tremendous financial hardship due to the pandemic,” OSV President Lisa Hillas said in a statement. “Unlike schools or other businesses, their inability to rehearse in person or perform to live audiences undermines their revenue stream. Our community relies on these groups to bring entertainment, culture and education to Vacaville and surrounding areas, especially children.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, OSV has hosted various online fundraising events. The proceeds are then used to provide grants to local arts organizations such as Bliss Urban Arts, Starbound Youth Theatre, Young Artists Conservatory of Music, Vacaville Ballet Company and Solano Symphony Orchestra.
“These grants help offset theater rents so they can return to the stage sooner post-pandemic once restrictions are lifted,” Hillas said in a statement. “Our ability to make a difference in the community allows us to Stay engaged and be motivated to do more. We now have the ability to support a wide variety of local performers and venues.”
OSV has partnered with several local organizations to host several events over the next few months. On November 13, it will host Bingo Bonanza in partnership with Vacaville Saturday Club, the Saturday Club’s bingo fundraiser that has supported Vacaville’s art since 1909. The event takes place at 125 West Kendall Street from 1-4pm. Tickets can be purchased online at clubvacaville.com on Saturdays.
On December 10-11, OSV will host its first live show since the pandemic in Journey Downtown. Jack Wright will pay tribute to legendary singer/songwriter Neil Diamond, whose pop standards include “Sweet Caroline,” “Cracklin’ Rosie,” “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers,” and more. “Jack Wright’s Live Concert Experience: A Cherry Cherry Christmas” premieres Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. followed by Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. at 308 Main St.
Other Journey Downtown shows to be hosted by OSV in the coming months include “Viva Santana,” a tribute to the legendary Latin rock band on Feb. 3, and “Markme on Stage,” a stage adaptation of a short film spotlighted by Angela Arteritano Feb. 4 , flamenco dance.
