Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Police and the Surveillance Center have warned motorists of the serious danger of parking in the middle of the road and the dangers of distracted driving.
Through the ‘You Comment’ initiative, a video was run to educate the public on these key road safety issues.
Video shows a pickup truck having to make an emergency stop after a flat tire.
The driver directly behind the truck noticed the stopped vehicle in time; however, a third driver approaching from behind was less alert and unaware of the two vehicles parked in front of him.
A third driver crashed into two other vehicles, causing a chain accident.
The Traffic and Patrol Department of the Abu Dhabi Police emphasized the importance of road safety and urged drivers not to stop in the middle of the road under any circumstances.
They advise drivers to take the nearest exit in the event of an emergency to ensure the safety of all road users. If the vehicle is immobile, the bureau is urging drivers to call 999 (operating room) immediately to contact the control center for any assistance they need.
In addition, the bureau also urged drivers to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead. This measure is crucial to avoid sudden stops, which can be especially dangerous in times of heavy traffic on internal and external roads.
Another area of concern highlighted by the campaign is the dangerous practice of using mobile phones or engaging in other distracting behaviors while driving. This distraction can lead to inattention and has been shown to significantly increase the risk of a traffic accident.
