A senior official revealed on Saturday that as part of the city’s strict security measures, so far more than 4.5 million passengers arriving at Dubai International Airport (DXB) have been tested for Covid-19.

Issa Al Shamsi, Vice President of Operations at Dubai Airports, said that as DXB’s internal laboratory is now fully operational, the Covid testing process when passengers arrive has become more efficient. The facility is one of the largest Covid airport laboratories in the world and can provide PCR test results within four to six hours.

“What happened before was that the test results were released every 24 hours and 48 hours because the samples were collected from the airport every 12 hours and then sent to various laboratories in the emirate,” Al Shamsi explained in a video shared by the Dubai Media Office . on Saturday.

“What is happening now is that samples are collected every 30 minutes and sent to the internally established laboratory, and the results will be available within four to six hours.”

The test facility at the airport was launched in collaboration with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Pure Health, and was completed last month by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Ahmed bin Said Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council for Crisis and Disaster Management and Chairman of Dubai Airports.

The laboratory covers an area of 20,000 square feet and can analyze more than 100,000 samples per day. “It is connected to various platforms to facilitate easy and fast sharing of test results with various regulatory agencies, government agencies and various airlines,” Al Shamsi said.

Thanks to the on-site vaccination center coordinated with DHA, more than 110,000 airport staff have received Covid vaccination.
