Bollywood’s fast-rising music director Vikram N Vikram needs no introduction today. The songs of his recently released film 3 Shyaane are well-liked by the people.
We met him and talked about his Bollywood journey to know more about the journey of Vikram N Vikram towards success. Let’s get to it!
First, tell us where you are from and how you came to Bollywood?
I belong to the Dikadla village of the Panipat district in Haryana. I have been living in Ambala Cantt for many years, and I also did my schooling there. Since childhood, I used to actively participate in the weekly cultural programs of the school or just say that an artist was flourishing within me.
When I grew up, I started writing poems and ghazals. These various works were published in Punjab Kesari, Dainik Tribune, Dainik Jagran, and Hari Bhoomi, besides many other local papers, and this hobby of writing brought me to Mumbai.
When did you get your first project in Bollywood?
I got my first project after 5 years of coming to Mumbai. During these 5 years, I have struggled hard. Actually, as I said, along with writing songs, I compose them as well. Once I was showing my songs to a director. So, being impressed by my tunes, he handed over the music project of his film to me.
The name of the movie was Mirror, and in that movie, there were many other famous actors, including Rajesh Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Sunidhi Chauhan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shreya Ghoshal, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Aasma Band and Kailash Kher sang my songs, but for some reason, this film could not be released.
The struggle continued. Then in 2007, actress Sonu Walia’s home production movie Good Luck India was founded, in which Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla and Sonu Walia had done two songs, the work on the rest of the songs was going on due to the case of Sanjay Dutt, the movie was stopped.
After that, in the home production of Art Director Nitin Desai, I did the song for the serial “Chittor Ki Rani Padmini Ka Johar”, which aired on Sony TV. In addition, I also made music for two serials and a film “Sting”, but this work never even reached the audience.
When did you get recognition in Bollywood?
In 2012, I did a female version of Mika Singh’s famous song “Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag” by recreating it, which was sung by Mika Singh’s cousin sister Pinky Paras, and this song was very much liked. Due to this, I started getting little recognition. After this, I did two more songs, Mehndi and Kala Baati Kurrr, along with Pinky Paras. These songs also went very well. Then in 2017, Daler Mehndi and I composed the music for the movie “Ik Onkar,” and I did two songs in this movie sung by Ritu Pathak and Asees Kaur.
In 2018, I worked on one more rap song with rapper Bad X released in 2019 and this song was also liked by many.
And I am very fortunate that I got the opportunity to work for the Government of India in 2020. For one of their projects, I made a song named “Bun Rahe Bharat Naya”, which was also tweeted by many big ministers of the Government of India…
And just recently, my movie 3 Shyaane was released. I did both music and lyrics of five songs sung by Javed Ali, Ritu Pathak, Arpita Chakraborty and Brijesh Shandilya. These songs were very much liked and are also getting a lot of recognition.
Thanks to 3 Shayane, I would like to thank Producer Sanjay Sunatkar and Director Anees Barudwale for giving me the music of 3 Shyaane. I also managed to live up to their expectations.
What projects are you doing now?
Currently, I’m working on music for 4-5 projects these days. In a movie by producer Vinay Arora, “A Morning in Kashmir,” the shooting is almost over and expected to be released very soon. I have also written a song for director Gurdev Aneja, and the video shooting will start soon. Some of my projects include a music album by director Vijay Dabas, the movie Vivah Sampan Huaby director Arjun Raj (Black Market fame), and music for the next rap song by rapper Bad X is in progress. 2-3 projects are in the final stage.
What would you like to say to the newcomers in Bollywood?
I have heard from many new artists that we have come to fulfil our passion, but I would say the word success is not for your passion but for your passion for achieving your particular goal. You can be successful in any field only when you have the passion for achieving your goal with complete dedication.
Who is behind your success?
I will give the credit for my success to the values given by my parents and Dr Vinod Agarwal in Karnal, with whom I have worked for five years and my elder brother Rajendra. They always motivated me and taught me how to achieve my goal honestly. Thank you.
