Abu Dhabi has announced that fines for violating regulations related to bicycles and personal use of e-bikes have come into effect.

Non-compliance will result in fines ranging from AED 200 to 500 for: non-compliance with safety instructions and standards, or violations of cycling on prohibited roads and areas, Abu Dhabi Government Media Office report.

The Department of Municipal and Transport (DMT) Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, announced the goal of implementing high standards of security and safety and promoting positive behaviour, the statement said.

The Transport Centre confirmed that the new regulations are part of its efforts to diversify transport modes and build an integrated and sustainable transport system. Bicycles and e-bikes are one of the first and last mile services that connect bus stops, shopping centers, services and residential areas, facilitating the integration of transportation networks, allowing community members to quickly reach their destinations at extremely low cost, It added.

In March, Abu Dhabi issued new regulations on the use of bicycles, e-bikes and other micro-mobility devices in the emirate. Cyclists and users of micro mobile devices are only allowed to use lanes and roads dedicated to bicycles. Additionally, riders are required to wear protective helmets and reflective clothing at night and to park their bikes only in designated areas.
