Abu Dhabi, February 18: Vivek Serrao hailing from Hirebyle Chikkamagaluru, has been elected as the 28th president of Abu Dhabi’s Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO). The election was held on 13 February during the Annual General Assembly in Abu Dhabi. Vivek has been working in the UAE for the past 24 years and has been a member of the organization since 2000. Vivek has completed his Masters in Business Administration in Marketing and Human Resources. On past committees, he has served in a variety of capacities including media coordinator, sports secretary, entertainment secretary and vice president. He is also a member of the KCO Jubilee Committee for 2020-21.
Before working with KCO, Vivek has been a member of YSM India and Emirates Paradela UAE. With his diverse skills in oratory, hosting, event management, sports and strong organizational development capabilities, he is the perfect choice to lead the President.
Secretary Sandhya Vas is a trained Physiotherapist currently working at Corniche Hospital Abu Dhabi for over 14 years. She has been in the UAE for the past 19 years, coming from the Diocese of Anglore in Mangaluru and living in Kinnigoli. An accomplished athlete, she has been the captain of the KCO throwing team for the past few years. She also served as the KCO’s Vice President, Sports Secretary, Assistant Secretary General and Secretary General in previous years.
Noel Fernandes who has been residing in Abu Dhabi for more than three decades has been re-elected as the treasurer for the year 2023. Noel hails from Kirem parish in Mangaluru and has completed his master’s in business administration and is currently working as a general manager With international distribution agencies. He is an avid sports and culture lover. Noel is also a member of the Indian Business & Professional Group and an active member of Toastmasters international where he has held various positions at club and regional level.
Leena D’Souza, the election officer conducted free and fair elections through secret ballot and announced the names of the elected members. The elected members in consultation with the senior members then nominated rest of their managing committee members as follows:

KCO’s 28 years of achievements are only stepping stones to the success and popularity of these years. From the beginning, the organization has stood by its values ​​and continues to be involved in various social, cultural and religious events in Abu Dhabi, most recently the comedy event ‘Sikeram Driver’ which was a huge success in 2022.
KCO has continued supporting the society through its scholarship and medical aid programs within UAE and India and looks forward to hosting a few more events in the region this year under its newly elected leadership.
At the AGM, outgoing President Jason Correa thanked all office heads and committee members for their support during his tenure as president. During his one-year tenure as President, Jason managed the organization and strengthened the core by focusing on the organization’s mission and values. Newly elected president Vivek expressed his gratitude for assuring faith and electing him as a president of KCO for the upcoming year 2023. He assured the organization that in his tenure he will take charge with the same values ​​and determination to take KCO to greater avenues with the Veterans Support.

The Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) is known in the UAE, the GCC and India for its charitable work in helping needy and deserving students. KCO has initiated several scholarships through Samanvaya in Mangaluru and has been helping dozens of people with critical illnesses.
