December 12 (United Press International) — Russian media reported on Monday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will not hold his annual press conference this month as scheduled, but has postponed it until next year on an unspecified date.
“As for the annual press conference, yes, not before New Years, but we expect the president will still find opportunities to communicate with [reporters]as he often does, including during his foreign visits,” a Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov tell russian State media agency TASS.
“We will keep you informed in due course,” Peskov said, declining to give a reason for the delay.
It marks the first time in a decade that Putin will not appear on national television in December.
Putin has held 17 news conferences since 2001, occasionally missing one in between.
The event has become a staple on his calendar, similar to a program where he takes questions from ordinary citizens on a conference call.
