Vladimir Putin’s ‘private army’ recruits ‘HIV, hepatitis patients’ | World News

Wagner’s group, known as President Vladimir Putin’s personal army, is apparently recruiting Russian criminals with diseases such as HIV and hepatitis C for the Ukrainian war, according to British intelligence.

The MoD said the Wagner Group had maintained “relatively high recruitment standards” in the earlier conflict because many of its operators had previously served as professional soldiers.

But the ministry added that admitting prisoners with medical problems highlights “an approach that now prioritizes quantity over experience or quality”.

Ukrainian military intelligence said more than 100 prisoners had been deployed wearing colorful bracelets marking their illnesses, adding that other soldiers were “increasingly outraged by the situation”.

Russia said Ukraine attacked its Black Sea fleet with 16 drones near Sevastopol on Saturday, asking the UN Security Council to meet on Monday to discuss the attack, Reuters reported.
