LEETOWN – Country music fans can look forward to seeing recording artist Wade Hayes on the Jefferson County Fairgrounds stage starting Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Hayes’ debut single, “Old enough to know better,” Number 1 on Billboard Hot Country Singles in 1994. On the self-titled album, the song entered the top ten along with three other singles from the album. Hayes continued to release albums in the 1990s before forming the McHayes duo with Alan Jackson’s violinist Mark McClung.

Hayes later joined Alabama frontman Randy Owen’s backing band in the late 2000s. In 2011, he was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer.

Over the past few years, the singer/songwriter has gone through a complex journey creating some of the most powerful songs of his career. Surviving stage IV colon cancer, not once, but twice, has given him a unique perspective on the fragility of life and the power of the human spirit. He incorporates this perspective into his musical compositions and will bring it to the stage of fairness.

“We are delighted to welcome the talent of Wade Hayes to the 69th Annual Jefferson County Fair,” Shared Show Manager Todd Wilt. “We encourage everyone to come out and have a good night.”

For the week beginning Saturday, the Miss Jefferson County Fair begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by the Miss Jefferson County Fair on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Contestants will compete in the Miss Jefferson County Fair beauty pageant Take it to the stage – new age group for beauty pageants. The contest is scheduled to end at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, when the Miss Jefferson County Junior champion will be crowned.

In addition to Hayes’ performance, the Revolution Band will perform a musical performance on the show stage starting Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The band offers everything from pop music of the 70’s to today. The band was a popular repeat performer at the Jefferson County Fair.

Every musical performance throughout the week is included in the general admission price of the show ticket.
