joe jones (Wales) A final-round 68 for a 6-under 210 to win the 54-hole Abu Dhabi Golf Club Men’s Open, beating the National Course.
The 18-year-old southpaw is a junior and senior player for the Welsh international and has a +2 handicap. He started the day with a two-shot lead.
Eagle three on the second par 5 and birdie on the eighth for a 33.That leaves him with a two-shot lead over his partner jack wiltshire (Ad City GC). Jones birdied the 11th hole, bogeyed the 14th for a 68, and finally birdied the main hole to extend his lead to three shots.
Jones shot 72, 70 and 68 over the three days, including 13 birdies and an eagle.
Runner-up Wiltshire shot a solid 15 pars and 3 birdies in the final round to finish second alone at 3 under par.
In three rounds, the only player on the field to score par or better was Sam Mullan (JGE) finished with a 70 overall, with 72 and 74 in the first two rounds.
The best round of the last round came from Jay Mulaney (JGE) shot a under-par 67 for a nine-under 33-34 without bogeys for fifth.
In the 54-hole net Gustav Larsson (Els Club) hits 70, 67 and 67 with nine handicaps giving him a one-shot advantage over the home players Damon Mitchell (ADGC).
The event is a qualifier for the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) Men’s Medal of Honor for 2022-23 and is a WAGR event backed by the R&A.
