Small ship Windstar Cruises has added a new Formula 1 experience to its guests, this time at the final race of the 2023 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in November. The motorsport tour complements Windstar’s long-running themed F1® Monaco Grand Prix cruise, this year’s Monaco Rome and World Grand Prix, scheduled for May 21-28 aboard Windstar’s flagship: the 342-passenger sailing yacht Wind Surf.
Windstar’s 2023 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Formula 1 Shore Excursion is part of Windstar’s first all-suite 312-passenger Star Legend itinerary in the Middle East, not offered by any other cruise line.
On a 10-day tour of the glittering beaches and cities of the Persian Gulf departing from Dubai on 23 November, with an overnight stay in Abu Dhabi, guests can choose to experience the F1® season in the premium grandstand on 25 and 26 November Seats for the climactic race time trial and race, transfers to and from Yas Marina Circuit, an English-speaking coordinator, and onboard perks such as an exclusive cocktail reception. Guests will also be joined by F1® sports broadcaster Bob Varsha, who will provide insight and expert analysis on the race and drivers. Excursions start at $1,599, while cruises start at $2,999 per person.
Cruising the Monaco Grand Prix originated in the 1990s as Windstar’s first themed cruise and one of the first in the industry (before cat lovers, bikers, rockers and other hobby groups made them so common Before). Windstar passengers on the Rome & Prix du Monde of Monaco itinerary, which is always sold out in advance, will all receive tickets to the races, in particular the Time Trials and Group K seats in the final. The entire cruise is hosted by a Formula 1® racing expert offering behind-the-scenes insight, along with themed cocktail receptions and dinners on board, plus extras like high-definition binoculars, comfortable seat cushions and earmuffs. Cruise fares start at $7,699 per person, including all Grand Prix programming; 2024 cabins are still available.
“I’m a huge fan of F1® racing, and with the sport’s viewership at an all-time high in the US, more and more of our Windstar customers are also racing fans,” explained Windstar President Christopher Prelog. “When we were planning our maiden voyage to the Middle East starting in November, I had hoped that the 2023 race dates would overlap. Lucky luck: our first Middle East voyage coincided with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The green flag for regional sailing and the checkered flag for the 2023 season… a perfect fit.”
