The Ministry of Municipalities and Transport has launched the ‘Abu Dhabi Digital Twin’ project, through which it will be able to use 3D augmented reality to facilitate and support the decision-making process. This is a qualitative leap in the development of digital and geographic information systems in the emirate.

DMT unveiled details of the project on Thursday at the Government Pavilion in Abu Dhabi at Gitex Technology Week 2022.

The pavilion is home to 30 government departments and is currently showcasing several initiatives and programs to improve services and life in the emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Digital Twin project utilizes highly advanced technologies such as aerial photography, lidar scanning and game engines. It intends to promote the concept of smart cities – launching and integrating augmented digital reality according to the highest international standards and making the Emirates Metaverse ready.

The project, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, aims to present a comprehensive and accurate representation of the emirate, including the exterior shape of the building. It will support the real estate market and highlight landmarks across the emirate, as well as provide details of the building’s internal structure.

This, in turn, is designed to speed up response times in emergency situations and support the planning and decision-making process.

Dr Salem Al Kaabi, Director of Operations at DMT, said: “DMT’s participation at Gitex Technology Week 2022 gives us an insight into the sector’s pioneering digital projects helping to improve the quality of life in Abu Dhabi. This is in line with the direction of Abu Dhabi’s leadership, To make the emirate a magnet for global economic and industrial investment.

“By using 3D modeling to create a complete visualization of the emirate, the Abu Dhabi Digital Twin project assists in data analysis, facilitates decision-making, monitors the appearance of the emirate’s cities, and uses virtual reality to highlight the most prominent locations to the public.”

The project will introduce a simultaneous representation of the emirate, allowing planners, engineers, experts, and users from the public and private sectors to explore the emirate’s development in 3D and evaluate vast amounts of data.

In addition, the project provides policymakers, experts and experts with accurate data and metrics for planning and operations across all key sectors.

It will also provide spatial analysis tools to help analyze the impact of various urban planning options to make appropriate planning decisions where necessary.

A complete visual representation of the building structure and other assets was developed by integrating the output of the project with multiple systems. It also ensures continuity of updated data, including real estate systems on lease contracts, lease metrics, buying and selling metrics, urban space and community amenities, building permits, asset management, address and town planning, business permits, service information, community amenities and examine.
