One of Formula One’s greatest drivers, Sebastian Vettel, said his farewell at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday. Vettel was 10th in the standings driving an Aston Martin.
While there’s no denying the German’s need to secure a platform spot, there were captivating smiles everywhere as he drew the curtain for his illustrious life. Vettel surprised the fans by performing a ‘doughnut’ at the end of the race.
During his early days in Formula 1, Vettel was dubbed the “baby-faced assassin”. From 2010 to 2013, he won four consecutive drivers’ titles.
Ahead of his final race, Vettel had said, “The decision was a tough one for me and I spent a lot of time thinking about it.”
“At the end of the year, I want to give myself a little more time to think about what to focus on next.
“It’s clear to me that since I’m a father, I want to spend more time with my family, but today is not about saying goodbye.” Rather, it’s a possibility to say thank you to everyone, especially the fans who make the Formula cars.
Max Verstappen won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, his record-breaking 15th victory of the season. He made it to the podium.
