A Louisiana couple who just moved from Arizona woke up last month to find a 5-foot alligator entering their home through their dog door.

In a now-viral video, originally posted by Alligator Invasion’s Don Schultz, the alligator is shown lying on the couple’s wooden floor before a trapper can be seen trying to catch the alligator , while the crocodile fidgets.

The four-minute video posted by Don shows how the alligator was taken from inside the house to the garage, where the trappers struggled to calm the alligator by taping its mouth shut and tying it up.

what happened?

Around 1:30am, Don and Jan Schultz were awakened by the growling of their Australian Cattle Dog. Although they ignored it the first time, the couple thought there was an intruder in the house after their dog, Panda, growled even harder the next time.

According to reports Washington postDon Schultz, 62, grabbed a Glock .40. As he walked downstairs from the bedroom of the couple’s New Iberia house, leaving his wife and dog inside, Don noticed something on the carpet that he thought was a dog toy.

However, when Don took a closer look, he realized that there was an alligator inches away from him. “I jumped back,” Don told reporters Washington post.

Tang said it didn’t move until he turned on the light, and then “it puffed up and started hissing,” he said.

The couple’s 7-year-old dog has also in the past scared off rattlesnakes trying to get through the fence and onto the property.

Tang added, “The crocodile really likes chasing dogs… so we assumed it might be stalking her.”

“You never thought you’d have one in your house,” said Jane.

according to Washington post, Don asked Jane to call the police, and three police officers arrived within five minutes. Jane said when she called the sheriff’s office, they again asked if the alligator was actually in the house.

“They came very quickly. They all said, ‘We’ve got to see this,'” Tang said.

45 minutes after calling the police, a trapper from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrived at the couple’s home and caught the alligator with a fishing rod.

Tang also said officials released him deep into the river mouth.
