Emirati artist Bayan Al O is eye-catching at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) 2023 with a showcase of pencil drawings and paintings on a variety of subjects related to Emirati life and culture.
Bayan’s stunning black and white pencil and charcoal sketches of UAE leaders. Among her portraits are those of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Dubai Mudan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
One of the portraits had already been purchased by the office of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the young artist said.
Almost lifelike, the portraits exude the feel of a black and white photograph, with intricate detail and the finest linework to render the appearance of skin, features, hair and clothing.
“My mother, an oil artist herself, was my inspiration and taught me my skills,” said Bayan, who also did several oil-and-colour works. “While I prefer portraiture, my other work includes still life, animals and mixed media work.”
The young artist also said that she prefers to keep a low profile, mostly showing off her art on Instagram.
She has shown her work at several local art events and hopes to continue to hone her craft, taking hours to days to complete a piece.
