The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will feature 30 photographs of Emirati women to mark International Women’s Day and as part of the UAE Gender Balance Council’s (UAEGBC) exhibition ‘Faceprints of Emirati Women’.

At the center of the exhibition is a painting of His Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai

The exhibition is a women-centred photo collection that aims to highlight the way of life in the early emirates before the UAE was established.

Behind every face there is a story: a woman whose husband dived into endless nights of diving and fishing; a girl who knits as if knitting her own dreams; A girl is very happy with her new henna design.

It also reflects the tremendous efforts of the UAE’s founding fathers to achieve equality and empower women in all spheres of life, especially the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Sheikha Manal added that the exhibition, with its various photo collections, enriches Expo 2020 Dubai’s artistic and cultural diversity and enhances global exchange, as it gives visitors the opportunity to explore women’s groundbreaking contributions since the union’s inception.

The exhibition highlights the contributing and inspiring presence of women in all aspects of life at the time, such as housewives, teachers, farmers, craftsmen, or their roles in the senior police force. It also reflects the enormous efforts our Founding Fathers made to achieve equality and empower women in all spheres of life.

four unique collections

Divided into four unique sections, the exhibition showcases a collection of women-centric photography.

The series spans different eras as women move toward a future of prosperity, beyond the promises of the past, to the new horizons of the present, and into a future of prosperity.

sanad (or in English: support) is a series that showcases mothers as the spirit of the family, a source of strength, resilience and unwavering love. This is what makes her a real supporter, or “sanad,” for her husband, who has been on diving trips for several months. She is the backbone of the house, planting, grinding, roasting, providing and protecting.
