Photo collection documents important role women played in shaping UAE history

The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will feature 30 photos of Emirati women in honor of International Women’s Day and as part of the UAE Gender Balance Council (UAEGBC)’s “Emirati Women’s Face Prints” exhibition.

The centrepiece of the exhibition is a painting by His Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai

The exhibit is a collection of women-focused photographs that aim to highlight the early lifestyles of the emirate before the union was established.

Behind every face is a story: a woman whose husband entered into endless nights of diving and fishing; a girl who knitted wool, as if she was knitting her own dreams; a woman who was full of love and passion for everything else; A girl is ecstatic about her new henna design.

It also reflects the tremendous efforts made by the UAE’s Founding Fathers to achieve equality and empower women in all aspects of life, especially the strong support of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

“Explore everyone The Story Behind Unique and inspiring photos that transport us into the past in all their detail and simplicity celebrating the strength and resilience of the Emirati spirit, while also documenting the vital role women have played in shaping our history. She added that each series is attributed to a meaningful word in the Emirati dialect to elucidate the Emirati spirit. There is a story behind all four sets of photos, but they have a primary purpose of documenting the vital role women have played in shaping our history.

Sheikha Manal added that the exhibition and its various photo collections enrich Expo 2020 Dubai’s artistic and cultural diversity and enhance global exchange as it gives visitors the opportunity to explore the pioneering contributions of women since the union’s inception.

Mona Al Marri, Deputy Chairman of UAEGBC and Director General of Dubai Government Media Office, said that Expo 2020 Dubai is the perfect platform to pay tribute to Emirati women.

The exhibition highlights the contribution and inspiring presence of women in all aspects of life at the time, as housewives, teachers, farmers, artisans, or their roles in the senior ranks of the police, to name a few. It also reflects the tremendous efforts of our Founding Fathers to achieve equality and empower women in all areas of life.

Four unique series

Divided into four unique sections, the exhibition showcases a collection of women-centric photographs.

The series spans different eras as women move toward a prosperous future, leaping past promises to reach new horizons of the present, into a prosperous and mature future.
