She died at 93, lived in the capital with her son
At a mosque in Abu Dhabi, an incredible group of Emirati recently showed up at the funeral of an elderly American woman — and they didn’t even know her.
This touching story touched Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of the Interior. On Sunday, he shared a video of a man named “Majid” speaking about how Islam unites all people and uplifts women.
In the video, Majid said the woman was a newly converted Muslim who was 93 years old. She lives in Abu Dhabi with her son.
News of her death spread via WhatsApp, prompting hundreds of Emiratis to show up to pray for her at her funeral.
In the video, Majid shared photos of a crowd filling the mosque, extending into the parking lot.
“About 1,000 men attended her funeral and they didn’t even know her. That’s Islam,” he said.
“Hundreds of men carry her on their shoulders. This religion is about uplifting women,” he added.
Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan thanked Majed for sharing the story and praised the performance of “active UAE citizens”.
