Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, visited Bustanica, the world’s largest vertical farm in Dubai.
During the tour, Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on the innovative techniques used in state-of-the-art hydroponic farms. It is developed by Emirates Crop One, a joint venture with Emirates Flight Catering. The farm is 330,000 square feet.
The Crown Prince said Dubai remained committed to maintaining the highest levels of food security through one of the world’s most comprehensive programs to address this important issue.
“Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we will continue to roll out new initiatives applying modern farming techniques to accelerate fresh food self-sufficiency and Supporting sustainable development is our top priority,” he said.
“Dubai Food Safety Council continuously reviews current opportunities and challenges within the framework of the National Food Safety Strategy. We plan to increase the self-sufficiency of the agricultural sector by supporting the use of technology and applied research in food processing and agriculture, with a focus on satisfying Dubai citizens and current and future needs of residents.”
Sheikh Hamdan also said: “The opening of the world’s largest vertical farm in Dubai reflects the high priority placed on long-term food security in HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s strategy and the government’s commitment to continued investment to ensure sustainable growth.”
Regardless of the global environment, Dubai will continue to seek innovative ways to further strengthen the emirate’s resilience and food sustainability, he added.
