Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi captured a tropical cyclone form over the Arabian Sea from space. He posted a video on Twitter showing the stunning weather conditions.
“The International Space Station provides a unique view of several natural phenomena that could aid experts on Earth in weather monitoring,” he tweeted. “Everyone pay attention to safety!”
Al Neyadi flew eastward over the Arabian Peninsula, specifically the UAE, over the Al Hajar Mountains, towards the Sultanate of Oman and towards the Arabian Sea, documenting the development of the storm as it gained strength in the vast Arabian Sea.
The video shows towering cloud columns representing thunderstorms, while the center of the hurricane remains elusive in the astronauts’ view.
Undeterred by this limitation, Al Neyadi expressed his determination to capture the intensity of the storm, placing his camera in an unobstructed view, and vowed to share the resulting images to give the world a glimpse of the raw power of nature.
Al Neyadi assured the public that photos taken from space will soon be available for viewing.
