Abu Dhabi: For the eleventh consecutive day, the UAE has provided relief supplies to earthquake-hit Syria and Turkey as part of Operation Chivalry/2.
The UAE has sent 65 cargo planes to Syria with 2,207 tons of aid and 41 aircraft with 807 tons of aid to Turkey, bringing the total number of flights to 106, delivering 3,014 tons of food, medical supplies and shelter tents.
The ERC delegation, led by Hammoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, ERC Acting Secretary-General, visited the affected areas in Latakia Governorate, Syria, and distributed aid to the affected people in the temporary shelters prepared for them in schools and public facilities.
The delegation was briefed on the living conditions and current needs of those affected.
The delegation also met with the center’s managers, the services provided to them, and the challenges facing relief operations due to the growing number of victims.

Al Junaibi said the visit was a continuation of the charity’s previous visit to the earthquake-hit areas of Syria.
He also said the visit provided an opportunity to learn more about the reality of the humanitarian situation and the nature of the disaster, which is considered the worst in recent years.
Al Junaibi also stressed that the ERC will steadily strengthen its response to the interests of those affected as part of the UAE-launched Operation Chivalry Rider/2 in order to fulfill its humanitarian commitment and responsibility of solidarity with the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey.
He also noted that the delegation discussed areas of cooperation and joint on-site coordination with officials of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to enhance humanitarian response to benefit earthquake victims and support SARC’s capacity.
He also said that the ERC will spare no effort to support the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

At the same time, the UAE search and rescue team in Syria began training Syrian civil defense personnel in advanced search and rescue technical equipment, which the UAE donated to the Syrian people at the direction of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al. Lieutenant Colonel Hamad Al Kaabi, Commander of the UAE Search and Rescue Team in Syria, said: “We are in a race against time to qualify Syrian Civil Defense personnel through intensive training courses on mechanisms for the use of advanced technological devices and equipment so that they are ready to deal with the Any emergency related to the earthquake and search and rescue operations.”
Efforts by the UAE search and rescue team are continuing to rescue those trapped under the rubble with qualitative devices and equipment.
Also on Saturday, the Sharjah Cooperative announced a donation of AED 1.5 million to the Big Heart Foundation’s campaign to support those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey.
Majid Salem Al Junaid, CEO of the Sharjah Cooperative, said the donation was to help earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey, adding that the Sharjah Cooperative provided a set of donated tents at its branches to provide charitable and humanitarian aid.
