SUPER DAD’s Taylor Calmus on Family-Friendly Entertainment: ‘We Have Bigger Purpose’

According to DUDE DAD and SUPER DAD star Taylor Calmus, his entertainment has one goal: to help fathers raise their children in the most epic way possible.
A coffee mug that Calmus sells on his website defines a “Dude Dad”: “1. A dad dedicated to raising his kids in the most epic way possible 2. Like a normal dad, except more fun.
The father of three recently reviewed his journey of creating content specifically for dads and how his move to Colorado started his “Dude Dad” video on YouTube.
“I’ve seen a lot of mom vlogs, but nothing for dad,” he said Tell Gazette. “I want to share my experience as a father.
“Decades of culture have taught us that being a dad sucks and our dads are stupid,” he continued. “We showed our capable side when it came to being a father and being excited about being a father.”
In addition to his YouTube channel and shows with Chip and Joanna Gaine’s Magnolia Network, he has published a book called “A Dude’s Guide to Baby Size”.
“We do more than just entertain,” he said. “We have a bigger purpose, which is to bring good to the world. We just want to be a happy place in the corner of the internet.”
Movieguide® Previously report:
In 2020, Calmus and his family bought a home in Fort Collins, Colorado, but never set foot in it. Since they moved, Calmus has released an update on his renovation work, which caught the attention of FIXER UPPER duo Chip and Joanna Gaines.
To raise money for St. Jude, Calmus launched a challenge to see who could build the best theater.
“Chip is very similar to me because we’re both those DIY guys who are these stupid dads, and I’ve always had a lot of admiration for him and his show and how cool it would be to work with him,” Calmus explained. “So I made this challenge video and posted it there, and they took it. We ended up raising $1.5 million for St. Jude.”
Not only did the event raise funds for the hospital, but it also saw Calmus host a new show for the Magnolia Network called SUPER DAD.
The show highlights “aspiring DIY dads turning their kids’ outrageous backyard dreams into playtime reality.”
“It’s a whole different beast, and it’s fun because we have 30 minutes to tell a story, so you have more room for reality to come into play and to dig deeper into the story,” Calmus said. “And the projects have all gotten bigger. But it’s a lot of work. I’ve never worked harder than making a TV show.”
Calmus said the show taught him not only about DIY projects, but also important lessons about parenting.
“I have three kids and I’m always tired, and a dad told me it’s really simple, if you’re tired, you’re doing it right,” he said. “It really resonated with me. If you’re tired, you put in effort and work.”
