WGES supports UAE in preparations for COP28

The 8th World Green Economy Summit (WGES), taking place in Dubai on 28-29 September, aims to turn climate jobs into opportunities for development and economic diversity.

WGES is especially important as the UAE prepares to host COP28 next year at Expo City in Dubai. WGES supports the UAE’s efforts and global efforts to adopt innovative green solutions, promote innovation for sustainable development, and balance economic growth with the sustainability of natural and environmental resources.

“WGES also supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emission Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of Dubai’s total clean energy generation by 2050,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Energy Council, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa and Chairman of WGES.

Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) will collaborate with water, energy, technology and Environment Show (Wetex) and Dubai Solar Show (DSS).

In addition to playing a leading role in promoting a green economy, WGES also plays a key role in supporting the UAE’s outstanding efforts in climate action and its strong commitment to sustainable development. It also reflects the UAE’s boundless support for energy and climate change issues and the development of sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.

Since its launch in 2014, WGES has successfully stimulated global efforts to drive the transition to a green economy, and has supported international cooperation to address global challenges, promote sustainable development and green economy investments, encourage the adoption of effective policies, programmes and Initiatives and discuss pressing issues such as climate change and global warming.

Aligning policies with the Sustainable Development Goals

WGES helps align energy policy with the Sustainable Development Goals, exchange views on successful sustainability strategies, systems and policies, and leverage existing opportunities to support the transition to a green economy. WGES brings together a large number of leaders, experts and experts in various fields related to the green economy and sustainable development.

Sheikh Mohammed launched the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) during WGES 2016.

WGEO helps to strengthen the transition to a green economy, disseminate green economy projects globally, and support countries and organizations seeking to achieve their strategies and green plans. WGEO and the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Climate Change Organization, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the World Bank Group, are hosting the Middle East 2022 from March. and North Africa Climate Week” 28-31 February 2022, coinciding with the closing of Expo 2020 Dubai.
