When do you know if it’s a 5 or 6 day weekend?

[ad_1]

The longest holiday of the year is less than a month away. The holiday commemorating the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr comes just ahead of the UAE’s two-month summer holidays. That means residents have more vacation options.

The only question that remains to be answered is whether the weekend is five or six days. The duration will depend on the appearance of the moon, which determines the beginning and end of the Islamic Hijri months.

possible rest date

According to the Islamic calendar, the official holidays to celebrate the festival are September 9-12, Hijri. While the corresponding dates in the Gregorian calendar can only be determined from when the moon will be seen, astronomical calculations indicate that the break is likely to be from Tuesday, June 27 to Friday, June 30. Add in the Saturday and Sunday weekends and it becomes six days off.

Dhul Hijjah 9 is likely to fall on Wednesday, June 28. If this happens, there will be five days off, including weekends.

When will you be sure?

The 12th and last month of the Hijri calendar is an Islamic festival – Dhul Hijjah. We are currently in our 11th month – Dhul Qaidah. Today (June 1) is Dhul Qaidah 12.

Muslims look for the new moon on the 29th of every month.

Dhul Qaidah 29 is on June 18. If spotted at night, Dhul Hijjah will start on June 19 with breaks starting on June 27. This equates to six days of rest.

If no moon is spotted on June 18, Dhul Hijjah will start on June 20 with a break on June 28. This will result in a five-day weekend.

In short, you’ll know if it’s a five-day or six-day weekend on Dhul Qaidah 29th, June 18th.

travel needs

Many residents plan to go on vacation during Eid. Cheap flights to nearby countries are advertised for as low as Dh2,450 return.

Complete holiday packages start from Dh2,600.
