Here are some fun things to do in Rutherford County this month.
charity boxing
Raising money for charity in the ring this weekend are Murfreesboro’s fire, emergency medical services and police departments. Boxing is scheduled for Friday, September 9 from 5-10pm at the Middle Tennessee Fair at 1660 Middle Tennessee Avenue.
Proceeds from the event will go to Endure Athletics, a nonprofit that supports children to break the cycle of homelessness. Funds will also be used for youth boxing programs in Rutherford County. General admission is $40. Find tickets on Eventbrite.
9/11 ceremony
The 21st annual 9/11 Memorial is scheduled for Friday, September 10 at 9:00 am at the 9/11 Memorial at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway in Murfreesboro. Local monuments include a 3,000-pound I-beam from the Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. All ages are encouraged to participate.
light up the night
CDC’s fifth annual “Light Up the Night” late summer party is scheduled for Friday, September 9th at Oakland’s Mansion at 900 N. Maney Ave. in Murfreesboro from 6-9pm. White Oak Craft Show

The third annual Murfreesboro Bacon Festival will be held at McKnight Park, 120 Dejarnette Lane, on Saturday, September 10, from 11 am to 7 pm.
Admission and parking for this outdoor event is free and includes artisans, food trucks, mechanical pig rides, plenty of kids’ activities, and a bacon-eating contest from 3-4pm​​​
Wings of Freedom fry
The Rotary Club of Smyrna will be hosting its 20th annual “Wings of Liberty” Fry and Classic Car Parade at Smyrna Airport at 278 Doug Walpole Road on Saturday, September 10th from 5-9pm. $50 for adults, $25 for ages 5-16, enjoy fried fish and all accessories. Admission to the cruise ship is $50 per vehicle.

The Tennessee Philharmonic will come together on Saturday, September 10 at Ruth and Eddie Taylor’s Farm at 7421 Keynesville Pike in Las Casas to play a light piece for “Music in the Field.” The farm gates open at 3pm and the concert starts at 4pm.

Food Festival
The Discover Rutherford Cultural Food Festival will be held at the Discovery Center Museum, 502 Broad Street, SE, Murfreesboro, September 17, 4-7.
Celebrate the diversity and heritage of Rutherford residents through food, music and dance, while supporting the Discovery Centre in this outdoor event. The event will honor longtime Rutherford County educator Greg Lyles.

The overflow parking lot will be located on the city lot on the corner of South Church Street and East Sevier Street (across WGNS Street). There will be a shuttle to and from the Discovery Center throughout the event.
