31 March 2023 – With the generous support of Emirates Aid, WHO has delivered $1.5 million worth of vital medicines and medical supplies to Al-Makassed Hospital in East Jerusalem.
The shipment will help fill a critical gap needed to continue providing life-saving medical care at the hospital, which is currently facing service interruptions due to ongoing shortages.
“Medicines and supplies provided through UAE aid support are a lifeline for patients in need of urgent medical care, especially from Gaza and the West Bank, as Al Makassed is one of the main hospitals providing referral services for Palestinians,” said Dr Rik Peeperkorn said the representative of the World Health Organization in the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
The supplies are part of a larger package of support to Al-Makaseed Hospital under a $25 million agreement between the UAE and the WHO.
Additional deliveries of medical supplies and equipment are expected in the coming months.
“We thank the UAE aid organizations for their generous and timely support and call on the international community to do more to support Al-Makasseed Hospital, the East Jerusalem hospital network and the Palestinian health sector. A protracted crisis requires a sustained response”, Peeperkorn Dr. said.
