Why ‘American Idol’ is delayed tonight

Fans of “American Idol” who tune in to the weekly episode Sunday night may be surprised to learn that the show isn’t airing.

The 95th Academy Awards will take place on ABC’s usual “Idol” slot and won’t see judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lay Lionel Richie Interacts with Rising Singer and Aspiring “Icon” Winner,” “Elvis Presley” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” vie for Best Picture.

But “Idol” fans won’t have to wait long for new episodes.

This week, “American Idol” didn’t go on hiatus, airing its latest batch of audition episodes right after the Oscars wrapped up at 9 p.m. ET. During the one-hour episode, contestants will audition in New Orleans, Las Vegas and Nashville.

• Savanna Christian, 23, of Darlington, South Carolina.

• Tripp Taylor, 18, from Florence, South Carolina.

“Idol” will return to its regular schedule on Sunday, March 19.
