Back in 2017, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish got the ladies ready to call their crews on a trip to the girls’ chosen destination. Now it looks like the ladies will be reuniting again for the film’s sequel.
In an interview with Michael Strahan good morning america, filmmaker Will Parker confirmed that a second film is in the works. “The ‘Girls Trip 2’ sequel, we’re in the works,” he said. “We’re definitely on stage, the ladies are, and I just talked to the director.”
Will continued, “Now what kind of trip are we going, right? What are we going to do after a pandemic with all our favorite crazy ladies? Here’s what we have to figure out.”
The first film, released in July 2017, focused on a group of friends who reunited for the first time after years of separation. They attended the annual New Orleans Essentials Festival, which not only created new memories for them, but also reminded them of the true meaning of friendship and sisterhood.
Written by Tracy Oliver and Kenya Barris, the film grossed millions at the box office and won several awards. Includes awards from the NAACP Image Awards, the MTV Movie and Television Awards, the African American Film Critics Association, and other events.
as Before According to reports, discussions about a sequel first occurred shortly after the film’s release. Back in September 2017, Will Parker mentioned that the actors were talking about making a second film. He said at the time: “We’re definitely talking about it. The only thing that’s harder than starting a studio comedy today is starting a studio comedy sequel. That’s the next challenge. I love our team. If anyone can do it, we can do it too. It’s too early for this movie to be in theaters, but it’s something we’ve all considered.”
