Last week, Disney revealed on an earnings call that it would begin removing shows from some of its streaming services as a cost-cutting measure, and the first affected shows have been revealed.Unfortunately, the list includes willow, excellent but crime place unwatched sequel debuted a few months ago.

While the biggest takeaway for io9 readers is shows like willow and Y: last person, which is a huge list of content. Yes, most are shows that only last a season or two, but they also have the potential to find new fans on just one service. Now, they will be impossible to find.
A Disney spokesperson confirmed the news and the May 26 date to io9, pointing to comments made by executives on last week’s earnings call for context. You can find those at this link, but the TL;DR version is “money saver”. Disney doesn’t have to keep paying people for those shows if they’re not available. It’s more complicated than that, but that’s the basics.In Disney’s view, if it doesn’t plan to make more episodes big shotwhy does it retain those who create big shot happy? (Yes, a little messy.)
Ultimately, that’s the saddest thing here.Being on this list sure feels like the nail in the coffin willow; io9 has reached out to showrunner Jon Kasdan for comment. We’ll update this post if we hear back – but for now, you’ve got a week to enjoy it, and everything else.
