Ahead of Zimbabwe’s ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers, the West Indies men’s cricket team will face the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in three one-day internationals in Sharjah in June.
The two teams will meet at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on June 5, June 7 and June 9.
Both teams are in World Cup qualifiers and will depart for Zimbabwe immediately after the series.
ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers kick off in Zimbabwe on June 18.
Mubashshir Usmani, Secretary General of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), said they were delighted to host the former world champions West Indies.
“Our team has produced some blockbuster performances in the ODI format in recent months, which has helped raise the profile of UAE cricket,” he told a media conference.
“Our qualification for the tournament in Zimbabwe is a testament to our recent achievements. We want to ensure the best possible preparation for our team and this series will certainly help to achieve that. We look forward to welcoming West Indies,” Mr Usmani added.
The ECB Secretary-General also thanked the West Indies Cricket Team for their continued support to the development of cricket in the UAE.
CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams said it was the first time West Indies had a bilateral tour with the UAE and they were delighted to agree to the historic three ODI series.
Adams said this would provide a good opportunity for West Indies players to get ready ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers.
“It will also allow those players who are not going to Zimbabwe to gain some valuable experience at an international level in foreign conditions, which will be of great benefit to their growth and development,” Adams said.
“We are delighted to have worked closely with the ECB on the arrangement of these three games and we see this as a partnership that can grow in the future,” he added.
