Windies to play UAE in three ODIs in June as squad prepares for ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers

[ad_1]

Barbados opened their defense of the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup with a six-wicket victory over the Trinidad and Tobago Reds heroines at Warner Park on Monday. The Windward Islands also won against Guyana and Jamaica over the Leeward Islands as the match took place in St. Kitts.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Red Force Divas’ innings were never carried despite debutant Shunelle Sawh’s top score of 68 for 113 balls.

Sawh, who was part of the West Indies Under-19 team, shared a 60-run run with Britney Cooper, who had a quick 32 off 48, while the Red Force Divas were all out with 161.

Barbados rookie Allison Gordon, a mid-swinger with right arm, and veteran leg-spinner Keila Elliott were strong in the Red Force batting lineup.

Gordon bagged wickets from Shania Abdool (2), Reneice Boyce (0), Djenaba Joseph (6) and Anisa Mohammed (16) to finish 10-1-36-4 and Elliot 9-0-40-4 number ends.

Twins Kyshona and Kycia Knight built a 74-run partnership when Barbados batted and the defending champions won by six wickets 162-4. Kycia hit 37 off 66 balls while Kyshona was soon dismissed with 35 off 61 balls.

The veteran Shakera Selman and Aaliyah Alleyne then paired for 72, with Barbados winning by 38.4. Alleyne is unbeaten on 48 off 51 balls, while Selman is unbeaten on 21 off 43 balls. Bowling for the Red Force Divas, Steffie Soogrim finished with numbers 9-0-36-2.

In Conaree, captain Afy Fletcher scored an early score as Windward Islands comfortably beat Guyana by nine wickets. Guyana won the toss and bat first, taking 79 runs in 27.1 overs.

They were canceled out by left-handed spinner Qiana Joseph, who finished with numbers of 10-3-18-4. Realeanna Grimmond 20 and Mandy Magru 18 are the only Guyanese batsmen to hit double figures. Fletcher’s leg spin is also deadly, stats at 5.1-2-10-2.

Fletcher then came back with the bat, unbeaten on 44 off 52 balls, while Namija Marcelin (29*) was with her in 21.2 overs.

At St. Paul’s Ground, Celina Whyte’s medium pace was too much for the Leeward Islands as Jamaica secured a six-wicket victory.

Terez Parker (32) and Divya Saxena (30) won bowling and batting first as they took Leeward Islands to 120 for 28.4 overs.

White’s pace was too much for the home team, as she finished 8.4-1-31-5 and Vanessa Watts 8-0-23-4.

Natasha McLean then led Jamaica in the chase, with the bat finishing 33*, while Rashada Williams provided good support with 31 for Jamaica to win by 24.1. Amanda Edwards was the best of the leeward bowlers at 5-0-17-2.
