Many institutions are organizing events to make the final week of study an engaging and enriching experience

This is the last week for private schools in the UAE before institutions close for a three-week winter break and start a new term next year. The holidays will run from December 12th to December 30th, excluding the extra three days off on weekends.New semester will start on Monday 2 January 2023
The school is organizing different events and planning many fun activities keeping in mind the festive spirit of the season. The Khaleej Times contacted various school groups for details on Snow and what to expect from students.
Aquila School Principal Wayne Howsen said: “In the last week of term all primary school students take part in our Enterprise Week. Our lessons in primary school focus on what it means to be an enterprising person so they are tasked Ideas and solutions for their peers to take on challenges or buy things.
“We will be hosting a Winter Fair on Thursday, December 8th, open to the community, with booths and activities for the whole family. The evening will end with a movie night under the stars, just for our family.”
Howsen added: “All funds raised from these events will go towards the ‘Adopt a School’ program that we are involved with with Dubai Cares. We are raising funds to build a school in Nepal. After our National Day celebrations, we Secondary students continue to learn about the UAE through visits to key national heritage sites. This is a very busy term so we end it on a very high note. One student from each year group will represent their year in our end-of-year talent show The show – it’s a great school-wide event for our community.”
The Headteacher sees the final week of term as an important time for learning, engagement and enriching experiences.
Sarah Samuel, Deputy Headteacher at GEMS Al Barsha National School, said: “The end-of-semester assessment is done to ensure teachers have a clear picture of the progress students have made during the longest term of the year.”
She added: “This week there will be a series of educational visits, including a trip to Dubai Safari Park to explore different species as part of the science unit ‘Organisms and their habitats’. Building on the ‘Light’ science unit, the students also Will visit the 3D World Selfie Museum, explore photos and how 3D images are created, and use their imaginations to develop stories.Learners will also celebrate their first semester success with certificates and recognition for their hard work, while our senior Year 1 students will take part in the Pursuit Games-Paint balling as a reward for their excellent work in their A-level studies.”
In many schools, the annual holiday staff networking event will provide an important opportunity for all staff to come together before the holidays.
According to Tara Foster, Elementary Principal at GEMS Metropolitan School in the Motor City, “This week, the whole school felt like it was winter because of our annual Winter Show. Get involved and celebrate the end of term one for parents.”

She added: “The school also hosted a Winter Farmers Market where students from across the school collaborated to design and make products to sell. Over 1,000 visitors came to support us and took the opportunity to buy some lovely gifts, enjoy good food, listen to live music, and participate in the Fun and games in. We even had a very special guest of honor, Santa himself, who met the kids and danced to the band.
“This Friday, staff and students will don winter jumpers to celebrate the end of term. All staff – teachers, administrators, teaching assistants, support staff, cleaners and security – are then invited to gather as a school community Together, celebrate a successful first term and the upcoming winter break with a feast prepared by the school in catering company.”
At the same time, principals reiterated the importance of regular reading at home across a range of subjects, both for pleasure and knowledge.
Deepika Thapar Singh, Chief Executive Officer and Principal of Credence High School, said: “Before our winter break, the week of December was full of fun and wellbeing activities not only for students but also for staff. Physical activity. We also have educational field trips for all grade levels where our students will be accompanied by teachers to enjoy the great weather and make connections.”
