Authorities blame the increase in cases on offenders and unvaccinated people
New Zealand on Tuesday recorded its highest daily number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic last year, as the delta variant of the coronavirus spread in its largest city, Auckland.
The South Pacific country reported 94 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, 87 of which were in Auckland, bringing the total number of current outbreaks to 2,099. A total of 28 people died of Covid-19 and 38 people were hospitalized due to the virus.
New Zealand used to be a typical representative of the eradication of Covid-19. Despite strict blockades and border closures, it has been fighting the delta epidemic that has spread to Auckland and its neighboring areas.

Authorities attribute the increase in cases to offenders and people who have not been vaccinated.
“Rules are important to everyone, and asking for testing if you have symptoms applies to everyone,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said at a news conference on Tuesday.
“We need every capable person to be vaccinated… We can all make a difference,” she said.
Before the delta outbreak in mid-August, New Zealand was basically virus-free for most of the pandemic.The government’s goal now is for the country to coexist with Covid-19 Higher vaccination rate. Now, nearly 67% of the population is fully vaccinated.
