Wizz Air Abu Dhabi starts service in Maldives

Emirates ultra-low-cost national airline Wizz Air Abu Dhabi announced on Tuesday (4 October) the launch of its first flight to Male, Maldives.

The airline said the route will operate four times a week, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday in October, increasing to six times a week in November and daily operations from December.

The launch of the new route is in line with the airline’s expansion plans and will be operated by the fifth aircraft that recently joined its fleet, the new state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft.

Located in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives has long been a traveler’s favorite for its picturesque perfect setting, pristine white sandy beaches and colorful coral reefs. With countless lagoons, coconut palms and beautiful coral reefs full of colourful marine life, it is made up of around 1,200 small coral islands and sandbars that provide an island life away from everyday life.

The new route provides affordable travel options for self-guided travellers within the UAE and travelling through Central and Eastern Europe via the Wizz Air network.

“As we continue our expansion plans and work towards making Abu Dhabi an aviation hub, the new route will help us connect more international tourists to the city, giving them the opportunity to stop and explore the amazing experiences it has to offer It will also be operated by our fifth aircraft, the Airbus A321neo, which was recently added to our brand new fleet and offers the lowest fuel consumption, emissions and noise footprint.”

Dr Abdulla Mausoom, Minister of Tourism of the Maldives, said: “With the extensive global connections the UAE offers, the new route from Abu Dhabi will strengthen the connection between the Maldives and the rest of the world.
