“If you want to build your country, you need to build a generation first. Women’s empowerment is essential to better society. For this, women’s education and training is even more important. We need to educate parents and children and jobs in aviation, “she says.

“Women are everywhere in aviation, not just pilots. There are more engineers, air traffic controllers, medical, technical and legal people,” she said.

The Women in Aviation 10th Anniversary Conference is a concurrent event to the 22nd edition of the Airport Show, which kicked off in Dubai on May 9, with the three-day show set to focus on the bright future of a full and sustainable recovery, passenger demand growth and focus on the future Mobility, sustainable infrastructure and innovation.

In her honorary speech, Sheikha Mozah Bint Marwan Al Maktoum, First Lieutenant Pilot of Dubai Police Air Force, said that the gender gap in aviation remains large and an effective roadmap is needed to address it.

She said she founded Shehana, an association for women in aviation, to empower and support women in the aviation industry. Shehana’s vision is to promote gender balance in aviation through local, regional and international partnerships and collaborations.

Shehana is an international voluntary association that engages and empowers women in aviation, supporting them in leadership roles and representing the industry at international events. Working with partners and sponsors, the association aims to create new frameworks, laws and regulations aimed at removing barriers and creating incentives for more women to participate in the industry.

“Women in the UAE are not only heard and seen, but respected and included. To improve gender equality, partnerships between sponsors, governments and organizations that support women in aviation are needed,” she said.

Guest of Honor Kuljit S Ghata-Aura, Boeing Middle East Turkey and Africa President, said the UAE has made significant progress in empowering women in the aviation industry, with nearly 27,000 women now employed in the industry, representing 42 percent of the industry’s workforce.

In December 2022, we signed a pledge with 15 companies from the UAE private sector to increase the representation of women in leadership roles to 30% by 2025, Thereby accelerating the advancement of gender equality in the UAE workforce. This commitment is an important opportunity for us to strengthen our efforts and align them with the UAE’s gender balance agenda,” he said.

Globally, women’s representation in Boeing’s workforce increased to 24.6 percent, largely due to recruitment efforts and stronger retention rates.
