Working in the UAE in 2022: What is your skill level?Find out why it matters

[ad_1]

Dubai: Ever wondered what determines your need to prove official documents? What makes you a skilled or unskilled worker? What does skill level mean? Below is a guide to the different skill levels in the UAE and how they affect you.

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE), there are five skill levels, ranging from Skill Level 1 for highly skilled persons to Skill Level 5 for low-skilled persons. Different skill levels are assigned to different jobs and occupations.

According to the official UAE government portal – u.ae – Skill Levels 1, 2 and 3 require an accredited educational certificate, while jobs at Skill Levels 4 and 5 do not require accreditation.

Some occupations under skill level 1 include managers, engineers, safety officers, public relations officers, doctors, quantity surveyors and booking officers, said Sree Kumar, a recruiter at Moativ Employment Services. Skill level 2 includes mechanical and technical work.

Skill level 3 occupations include sales executives, sales representatives, field supervisors, ticket clerks, cashiers, receptionists, cashier clerks, sales executives, store clerks, tour guides, and more.

Skill levels 4 and 5 include general worker, housekeeper, office boy, helper, cleaner, construction worker, stevedore and other positions.

Abdulhusen Munpurwala, business development manager at enterprise services firm PRO Deskk, added that skill levels 1 and 2 are not required to attend Tawjeeh training courses, while those of skill levels 3, 4 and 5 are required to attend training courses.

What is Tawjeeh training?

The Arabic word tawjeeh literally means “guidance” and some workers are required to take awareness courses that provide information on UAE law and culture, labour laws and penalties, and tips on how to manage finances in the new country.

Training is offered at MOHRE accredited Tawjeeh Centres. For a complete guide to Tawjeeh training courses, Click here.

How do I know my skill level?

Your skill level is mentioned first in your job code. To find out what your work code is, you can contact the MOHRE Call Centre on 600 69 0000.

Does your skill level affect other aspects of life in the UAE?

Munpurwala said a worker’s skill level would not affect the person’s ability to sponsor a family member as it was removed from the criteria list for applying for a family visa.

According to the UAE, from March 2019, any worker who meets the income criteria (minimum wage of Dh4,000 or Dh3,000 plus accommodation) can sponsor visas for family members.
