Eva Hamel, World Bank Representative in the UAE, hailed the UAE as the most progressive country in the MENA region in terms of women’s empowerment. She commended the UAE’s commitment to supporting women’s roles in the community and increasing their economic opportunities.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Hamel said the UAE has taken unprecedented steps to strengthen its position in terms of gender balance in the region and has become the first MENA country to implement parental leave for fathers. . The country has also introduced legal provisions to ensure women receive equal pay for work of equal value and prohibit gender discrimination in the workplace.

Hamel highlighted that the UAE maintained its leading position in the latest World Bank report, which monitors governments’ efforts to enact laws aimed at women’s economic empowerment.

In addition, the UAE recently established the UAE Gender Balance Committee in partnership with the World Bank as a regional center for promoting gender balance. The committee advises on the issue and organizes workshops, making it an effective platform to identify progress on gender balance in the region and share the UAE’s successful experiences in this area.

In conclusion, Hamel emphasized that the launch of the UAE Gender Balance Council is a timely initiative and will continue to be an important tool in promoting gender balance efforts in the region.
