In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Hamel said the UAE has taken unprecedented steps to strengthen its position in terms of gender balance in the region and has become the first MENA country to implement parental leave for fathers. . Hamel highlighted that the UAE maintained its leading position in the latest World Bank report, which monitors governments’ efforts to enact laws aimed at women’s economic empowerment.
In addition, the UAE recently established the UAE Gender Balance Committee in partnership with the World Bank as a regional center for promoting gender balance. The committee advises on the issue and organizes workshops, making it an effective platform to identify progress on gender balance in the region and share the UAE’s successful experiences in this area.
