- The summit ushered in the circular economy and the new era of hydrogen energy in the GCC
ABU DHABI, UAE – World Future Energy Summit – the 14th edition of the leading business event for future energy and sustainable development – kicks off three days of events tomorrow (16 January) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) , global energy and sustainable development stakeholders eagerly await insights and outcomes to accelerate global and regional adoption of circular economy and clean energy.
The 2023 Summit will be a source of inspiration in key sustainable development areas through six exhibitions and five dedicated forums addressing today’s important energy challenges and multi-sectoral implications respectively. Vertically segmented expos and forums focus on energy, water, EcoWaste, solar energy, smart cities, climate and the environment. A new addition to the summit is the Hydrogen Innovation Hub, which will run alongside the Energy Expo and Forum and will explore current and future solutions to enable green hydrogen to play a key role in the energy transition.

The EcoWaste exhibition and forum, organized and hosted by Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center – Tadweer, will be a pioneer in the adoption of circular economy leadership in the GCC as the region and the wider Middle East grapple with its long-tolerated, urbanized The problem caused by the waste dilemma. EcoWaste participants will explore innovative approaches to sustainable waste management in the GCC, as well as game-changing solutions designed to help address the waste crisis in the Middle East and Africa, which the World Bank estimates will double to 255 million annually by 2050 Ton.

Local, regional and global experts in the recycling, reuse, remanufacturing, waste management and waste-to-energy industries will share best practice knowledge, unlocking a host of new business opportunities, revenue streams and investment opportunities for businesses and start-ups across the globe and more departments. The forum will feature keynote presentations, case studies and panel discussions in-depth on disruptive approaches to creating new value from waste, waste management technologies, landfill diversion strategies, waste-to-energy research, single-use plastics End and improve waste management technology. It will also feature the UAE and GCC Waste Management Forum – a GCC high-level discussion on how to further advance sustainable waste management practices in the region.
The 2023 summit will also debut the Green Hydrogen Innovation Hub, which will showcase solutions to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen in the regional and global energy transition. Held in conjunction with the Summit’s Energy Expo and Forum, the center brings together key technologies that support the production, transport, storage and use of green hydrogen. The center will address the potential and innovation of green hydrogen across the value chain, including electrolysis and conversion technologies, transport solutions, zero-emission mobility, decarbonisation of industrial production processes and electricity consumption in buildings, large-scale storage, carbon capture, Utilization and storage, waste-to-hydrogen and hydrogen-to-ammonia conversion technologies.
Innovators from South Africa, Australia, the UK, the US and Spain showcased solutions in green hydrogen usage, finance, production and consulting at the Hub.
The Summit’s knowledge-sharing program is the broadest to date, with more than 200 hours of expert and informed content across specialized forums and topics. A highlight was the one-day ENOWA ENACT conference on January 17th hosted by the Energy, Water and Hydrogen subsidiary of the new Saudi Smart City NEOM.
