University of New Mexico athletic director Steve Kirkland said in a statement that officials at both schools decided to postpone the evening’s basketball game.

“Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy,” the statement said, adding that details on rescheduling games and refunds will be announced at a later date.

The Rio Grande Rivalry between the Lobos (3-0) and the Aggies (1-1) was scheduled for 5 p.m. local time at The Pit, and the sports department said more than 13,000 tickets had been sold. (Associated Press)
