ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, March 11 (PTI) At least 10 people, including women and children, were killed when a cart pulled by a tractor fell into a canal in southern Pakistan, police said on Saturday.
The incident happened on Friday night in Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan district, where the improvised transport system is common to transport villagers during social gatherings.

A rescue official said 46 people were on the trolley in the accident, who were going to visit local shrines scattered across the area.
So far, 27 people have been rescued and 10 bodies recovered from the canal used for irrigation purposes, rescue officials said, adding that seven women and three children were among the dead.
Nine people are still missing and the death toll is likely to rise. Pakistan’s transportation system is underdeveloped, and the poor depend on anything that helps them travel long distances in the countryside.
Tractor carts are used for occasions such as weddings, shrine visits, and sporting events.
