PORT-AU-PRINCE (Haiti), June 5 (AP) — At least 15 people have died and eight others are missing across Haiti after heavy rains over the weekend triggered widespread flooding and multiple landslides, authorities said Sunday.
Nearly 13,400 people were forced to evacuate as water flooded hundreds of homes across the country, turning some streets into raging brown rivers, according to Haiti’s Civil Defense.
More than 7,400 homes reported damage and officials were still assessing the impact of the rain that swept across Haiti on Saturday.
The rains have also wreaked havoc on crops in central Haiti amid heightened hunger.
Prime Minister Ariel Henry said he was working with local and international organizations to respond to the needs of those affected by the flooding. (Associated Press)
