Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [Pakistan]Jan 20 (ANI): Three people including two policemen and a cook were killed in a terrorist attack on a police checkpoint in Pakistan’s Khyber region, Dawn newspaper reported on Friday.
The police checkpoint where the attack took place is located in Jamrud Taysir, Khyber District, Peshawar Division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Citing Khyber DPO Mohammad Imran, Dawn said the terrorists carried out a coordinated attack at the Takhtabeg checkpoint on the Peshawar-Torkham main road at around 7:30 pm local time.
The attackers, one of whom was a suicide bomber, first threw grenades at the police station and then opened fire at random, killing one officer and seriously injuring two others, including a cook.

“An injured policeman succumbed while being transferred to the hospital, while the cook later died at the Hayatabad Medical Center in Peshawar,” the DPO said. According to the Dawn newspaper, the two police officers killed included Younas Khan and Manzoor Shah, while the chef was identified as Rafiq, all from Jamrud.
Violence across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province has grown exponentially, with the death toll rising by 108%.
According to the Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), the total death toll from terrorist violence was as high as 973, an increase of 14.47% compared to last year in 2021.
The majority of victims of violence are civilians, government officials and security personnel, while militants, insurgents and other lawless elements accounted for 38 percent of all deaths this year. (Arnie)
