Lahore, December 20 (PTI) Some 89 Hindu pilgrims from India arrived here on Tuesday to celebrate Maha Shivaratri at the Katas Raj Temple in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

“About 89 Hindu pilgrims arrived here from India via the Wagah border on Tuesday. They were received at the border by Rana Shahid and Fraz Abbas, senior officials of the Evacuee Trust Property Board,” Amir Hashmi, spokesman for the ETPB, which manages holy places for ethnic minorities in Pakistan, told PTI .

Hashmi said the Hindu pilgrims will stop in Lahore for a day before heading to Chakwar, about 300 kilometers from Lahore, to attend their religious festival in Kataslaj. He said the main event “Maha Shivaratri” will be held there on Thursday. He added that foolproof security arrangements had been made in this regard.

Hindu pilgrim leader Sanjiv Kumar said they have found love in Pakistan and hoped the ETPB would take good care of their holy places.
