Pyongyang [North Korea]March 19 (ABC): North Korea claims about 800,000 civilians have volunteered to join the country’s military to fight the United States, CNN reported.

The Rodong Sinmun, North Korea’s official newspaper, reported that only about 800,000 students and workers expressed a desire to join the military against the United States.

North Korea made the claim after it launched its Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday in response to ongoing U.S.-South Korea military exercises, CNN reported.

North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Hwasongpho-17 during the ongoing Korea-US Freedom Shield (FS) exercise, which the country denounced as an “aggressive war preparation” agency against North Korea, Yonhap news agency reported.

After the missile launch, North Korea confirmed that they had launched the missile, adding that it was a “stronger warning” to provocative and aggressive large-scale war maneuvers by the United States and South Korea.

North Korea said on the state news agency KCNA that “due to the severe situation in which the crazy, provocative and aggressive large-scale war drills conducted by the United States and North Korea are creating the most unstable security environment on the Korean peninsula, North Korea’s puppet traitors are against North Korea. The Party Central Military Commission ensured that the ICBM Hwasongpho-17 launch exercise was conducted on March 16.”

“This strategic weapon launch exercise is to issue a stronger warning to the enemy who deliberately increases the tension on the Korean peninsula, while ignoring North Korea’s stern warning, insisting on resorting to irresponsible and reckless military threats, and giving understanding. North Korea Armed Conflict concern that has become a threatening reality and more clearly demonstrates the actual willingness of the North Korean party and government to strike back with overwhelming offensive measures at any time,” the statement added.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised the launch drill of the intercontinental missile force on the spot.

The main cadres of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the commander of the General Missile Administration watched the launch drill accompanied by the beloved Comrade Kim Jong-un.

The exercise is aimed at verifying the maneuverability and reliability of North Korea’s nuclear war deterrent.

“The ICBM Hwasongpho-17 launched at Pyongyang International Airport had a maximum flight altitude of 6,045 km, a flight distance of 1,000.2 km 4,151 seconds, and then accurately landed in South Korea, a preset area in the open waters of the East Sea,” the statement added. (Arnie)
