“In both cases, one child was 4 years old and the other was 11 years old. One of them lost his life, and we want to start a polio vaccination campaign to prevent this disease,” Amerkhail said.
The family of the child who died in the Batikoot district said their child died a year ago in hospital after contracting polio, which left him paralyzed from the neck down and suffered severe diarrhea.

The child was named Nazo, according to Tolo News.
“Her neck was paralyzed. She couldn’t control it. We took her to the hospital and she died on the night of Eid,” Nazor’s grandfather Iqbal Shah said.
“After getting this disease (polio), her feet got smaller. Her stomach got sour, she lost control of her neck and couldn’t digest food,” said Nazo’s mother, Zarmina.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said they would start a polio vaccination campaign soon.
In 2020, Afghanistan reported a total of 56 cases of polio, compared with 4 cases in 2021. Two cases of polio were reported last year. As a result, the number of polio cases in the country has been declining.
Polio is a severely contagious and disabling disease that is usually spread through contaminated water or food. The infection can cause complete paralysis within hours of invading the nervous system.
According to Khaama Press, the contagious virus is ravaging the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan, where terrorists attacked anti-polio teams. (Arnie)
